Eric is a music-theater collaborator who directs, performs, designs, and produces. Eric feels most at peace when he’s making meaningful experiences for artists & audiences alike.

“A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it, bearing within him the image of a cathedral.”

―Antoine de Saint-Exupery, The Little Prince

Growing up an only child, Eric relied upon imagination and environment to create a sense of community through the stories and worlds he created while playing alone. In his work, Eric hopes to forge a communion with the audience that is filled with the wonder and endless possibilities he experienced in his adolescence.

As a director, Eric strives to construct an environment in which he leads with kindness and gratitude, where his production teams and casts feel empowered to do their best work. He loves to build total theatre, where every department—actors, lights, scenery, costumes, props, music, choreography—are firing on all cylinders to create a transcendent imaginative event for the audience.

As a singer-actor, Eric is often called upon to provide dramatic and emotional vocals. He is also praised for his physicality and comedy making abilities. He is comfortable in all genres of music-theater from opera, traditional musical theater, jukebox & radio, and alternative music-theater pieces.

Eric’s production of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder was named a Top Ten Theatrical Event of 2019 by the Minneapolis Star Tribune and his production of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical was named Best Musical of the 2021-2022 Season by the Encore Michigan Wilde Awards. Eric directed the Minnesota premiere of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical in 2023 at Theatre L’Homme Dieux. As a performer, Eric was a company member of The Guthrie Theater’s acclaimed production of Guys & Dolls, and Theater Latté Da’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins which received the distinction of Best Theater Production of the Decade by the Star Tribune.

Eric was the Director of Production at the historic Old Log Theatre in Minnesota from 2018-2022. During that tenure, Eric directed 10 productions, as well as several readings, and produced concert events. He also gained experience in almost every aspect of running a professional theatre including production management, stage management, box office & front of house, group sales, on run crew, and as a sound & light board op.

Eric is the Founding Artistic Director of Buzz Music Theater and a co-owner of The Hive Collaborative, an arts and event space in St. Paul, MN. The Hive & Buzz have produced music theater events such as 16 Bar Musical Theater Bingo, All About Jane: The Eras of Austen, Mood Swings: An Exploration of the Concept Albums of Frank Sinatra, and Ella Sings: Her Composer Songbook Series. The Hive is also home of The Pollinator, a program that provides boots on the ground experiences for artists who seek growth and opportunity on the other side of the table.

Eric holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Ithaca College. Eric has participated in the Wesley Balk Opera/Music-Theater Institute as both a performer and a director.
